Stanley D. Wasson, 78 years of age, passed away
peacefully on Tuesday, July 27, 2010 at the ARHS Altoona Hospital Campus
surrounded by loving family and friends.
Stanley was born in Bellwood, PA, in 1931 to Dwight and Evelyn
Wasson. He was preceded in death by his
wife, Helen Gallace of Altoona, PA in 1983.
He is survived by his brother, Dwight Wasson of Redding, CA, and his
sister, Patricia Wasson Thomas of Clearwater, FL. Stanley is also survived by his son, Anthony
Wasson and his wife Rebecca Wasson of Pittsburgh, PA, along with his
grandchildren, Benjamin, Connor, and Cole Wasson, and many nieces and
nephews. Stanley graduated from Bellwood
Antis High School in 1949. He was an accomplished
high school baseball pitcher who still holds a pitching record to this
day. He was also drafted by the
Philadelphia Phillies as a minor league pitching prospect. Stan then earned an Associates Degree in
drafting from the Pennsylvania State University. Stanley honorable served his country in the
Korean War from 1952 to 1954. Stanley
was employed by the First National Bank of Altoona until the time of his
unfortunate automobile accident in 1967 that rendered him a quadriplegic. He was a long-time resident of the
Hollidaysburg Veteran’s Home. Stanley
kept busy being a dedicated long-time sports fan of Penn State Football,
Steelers Football, the Pittsburgh Pirates, and the Altoona Curve. He was also an avid reader and writer during
his stay in the Veteran’s Home. Stanley
wished to express his heartfelt thanks to the many caregivers, friends, and
especially Nancy and Edward Lafferty for their years of dedicated care and
support of his needs. A memorial service
will be held at 2:00P.M. on Thursday, July 29, 2010, at the Hollidaysburg
Veterans Home in the Arnold Hall activities center.

My sincere condolences to the Wasson family. Stan was my first patient as an OT 30 years ago. He was such a wonderful man and was so proud of his son, Tony.
