Mark Steven Cherry, 55, of Altoona, died unexpectedly at work Wednesday, July 28, 2010. He was born May 1, 1955 in Altoona, the son of Clair L. and Barbara C. (Weamer) Cherry.  Mark attended Juniata Church of the Brethren.  He was employed as an over-the-road driver for Smith Transport.  Mark enjoyed working on cars, going to car shows, and especially enjoyed spending time with his family.  He was a member of the Bavarian Aide Society and a life member of the National Street Machine Club.  He is survived by his mother, daughters Chrystal G. Port and husband Stephen, and Bobbie S. Cherry, both of Altoona, grandchildren Stephen A. Port, Jr. and Faith A. Port, his brother Richard L. Cherry and wife Geraldine of Altoona, and his nephew Ricky A. Cherry.  Mark was preceded in death by his father.  Friend will be received from 2:00-4:00pm and 6:00-8:00pm on Friday, July 30, 2010 and from 10:00am – 11:00am on Saturday, July 31, 2010 at E. Merrill Smith Funeral Home, Inc., 2309 Broad Avenue, Altoona.  A funeral service will be held at 11:00am on Saturday at the funeral home officiated by Rev. Robert Wharton.  Interment will be held at Blair Memorial Park, Bellwood.  Friends may express condolences at www.smithfuneralcenter.com.

Uncle Mark, where do I begin to express how you will be missed. I remember all the car shows you and I went to, helping you work on your cars and just talking with you. Its so hard to believe that you are not with us. It wasnt your time yet. Gone too soon but will never be forgotten. we always had great times together. You will always be in my heart. I will never forget you and the fun we had joking around, you always made me feel wanted and always had me laughing. I talked to you one day and the next morning your gone! Why? I ask myself. Even though I only knew Mark for the last 5 months, he was an exemplary worker. He was professional at work, in life and with his family. He was kind and he loved being with his family.
